I do not have the money or space for a stand mixer. There, I said it! I bake with a hand mixer and a dream. That is my level of simplicity, so you can trust this list is actually made up of extremely necessary and helpful tools for gluten free home baking.

  1. Parchment paper

When in doubt, bake on parchment paper. It makes for an easy clean up, it's non-stick, and it's perfect for lining baking sheets, cake pans, and air fryers. You can buy 8-inch rounds, or perfect squares for your specific air fry chamber, but a classic roll works fine for all instances. Sometimes I cut sheets with scissors to fit a certain size. Find some here. (paid link)

  2. Hand mixer

I have said it before, it's all you need for smaller batch stuff. Unless you're making a cake to feed 60 people, get a hand mixer. It is portable, effective, and will make you strong. My favorite one is here. (paid link)

  3. Mixing bowls

I'm not picky about mixing bowls, but I have broken bowls that aren't made for mixing, so there are definitely some to steer clear of. I have a set of clear glass bowls that I love because you can see your creation from all sides! I also have a rainbow plastic set (similar set here) that has lasted me years. Whatever you use, make sure it's durable, and if you're smart, you'll get a microwave safe, stackable set. (paid link)

  4. Measuring tools

My brother got me a Russian nesting doll measuring cup set, and while I love it because of its design (I collect nesting dolls), its practicality is a bonus. For teaspoon/tablespoon measuring, I have this adjustable tool that cuts down on storage space and dishes. (paid link)

  5. Great GF flour

I have 3 flours that I ride for. I don't mess with my system because it works. Bob's Red Mill 1 to 1 gluten free flour blend does the trick for cookies. It can become gummy for a cake. I prefer King Arthur 1 to 1 for cakes and more texture-revealing bakes. When I'm baking healthful cookies or a simple treat for myself, I am an almond flour girl. I love almonds, so almond flour makes cookies much more enticing to me. If it's not your thing, no worries. But you must try an almond flour chocolate chip cookie before you decide.

  6. Piping tools

If you're venturing into cake or cupcake decorating, there's a secret no one tells you. That secret is, the more tools you have, the better your treats will look! Decorating is a tool-advantage game. I have had my eye on this frosting gun, and it's so inexpensive, I think I might need it, too. (paid link)
